Mark Richt’s new contract is interesting

1x1.trans Mark Richts new contract is interesting Mark Richt Georgia Bulldogs contract

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt has been on the hot seat for the last few years because, well, it’s the SEC and finishing anywhere other than at the top is unacceptable even if it is unreasonable. The hot seat talk settled down after Georgia took the SEC East last season and played LSU in the SEC Championship game.

Georgia has since decided that this is good enough for them and they’ll be extending Richt’s contract through 2016. That’s fine, Richt is great coach that’s a proven winner in the toughest conference. The interesting part of the contract renewal is that there is no buyout clause. WHAT?

“At the end of the day, I’ve always believed that money should not be a determining factor in people stay,” McGarity said. “That should not be an anchor behind somebody’s neck. Life’s too short. … There’s no question that Mark Richt wants to be at the University of Georgia. He and I are in a good place here.”

Would Richt leave Georgia? Who knows. He’s been linked to a few jobs a couple of times, but hasn’t left yet.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think he ever leaves.
