Former North Carolina Tarheel coach Butch Davis’ son is now a walk-on for the Tarheels.

Drew Davis was a 3 star pro-style quarterback out of East Chapel Hill (Rivals). Drew had planned on attending UNC and playing under his dad, but after Butch was fired, he wasn’t sure if Carolina was going to be right for him.
“He wanted us all to be OK with it,” Butch Davis added.
New Tarheel head coach Larry Fedora added that Drew is one of 10 to 12 walk-ons coming into the program and “he’ll be treated the same way”. Fedora has a way with words.
“He’s a good kid,” Butch Davis said. “He’s levelheaded. He’s pretty mature. He didn’t make this decision blindly.”
Davis had a pretty good high school career after missing half of his junior season with a shoulder injury, setting a state record with 43 completions in one game. He threw for 3,525 yards and 30 touchdowns in 11 games as a starter.
Davis should fit right in to Larry Fedora’s offensive style. He’ll have to earn a spot behind Sophomore Bryn Renner though, whose dad ironically coached Davis in high school.
