Steven Godfrey tries to fit in with the Alabama gumps
This is the picture of the annual running of “The Gumps”. This is a term referred to by Alabama Crimson Tide fans as “sidewalk” fans that do not hold a degree from the university in which they cheer for. It is referred to for Alabama Crimson Tide fans ever since the movie “Forrest Gump” who played for the Crimson Tide in the fictional movie. He apparently was an All American and played for Alabama Crimson Tide Head Coach Bear Bryant.
These “gumps” literally run across Alabama’s stadium to be first in line for autographs. Well, Steven Godfrey did his best to blend in with “The Gumps” during SEC Media Days. Here are some quotes from his articles:
ALABAMA ME: “Awesome, man. Roll Tide!”
TV REPORTER: “Roll Tide!”
ALABAMA ME: (again) “Roll Tide!”
TV REPORTER: “… okay.”

OLDER TIDE GENTLEMAN: “Wow, hey man I sure do like that one, where’d you get…”
