The Big East announced Monday that it has hired Bevilacqua Helfant Ventures as its lead negotiator for a new TV deal. Good luck with that.
Co-founder Chris Bevilacqua helped the Pac 12 land it’s 80 million dollar deal with ESPN, and while the Big East is far less marketable in football, a deal should be obtainable.
According to the AP, the Big East will begin a 60 day negotiation with ESPN for an exclusive TV deal starting on September 1st.
This is the first attempt we’ve seen the Big East take to stay very relevant in football outside of adding Boise State, who isn’t anywhere near the East coast. I can’t begin to tell you whether or not a TV deal would save the Big East, but it will keep Boise in the spotlight for a little while.
