Minnesota Claims 7th Football National Championship

The Minnesota Athletic Department added its seventh National Championship in football. The Golden Gophers will not count the 1904 season as one of seven football National Championships. Congratulations to Minnesota on their new 108-year old Championship.

How can they do that? In 1996, Richard Billingsley created a computer rating for every season going back until 1869. The 1904 Gopher squad went 13-0. Minnesota dominated opponents in 1904 scoring 725 points and allowing only 12. Those 12 points all came against Nebraska in a 16-12 win. Minnesota’s 1904 schedule is below.

Minnesota was once a football powerhouse having won six football National Championships between 1934 and 1960. The Badgers last won a B1G Championship in 1967.
