Connor Shaw was 7 of 11 for 67 yards against Vanderbilt on Thursday night. Shaw was hit towards the end of the 2nd quarter on a short run. He was checked out on the sideline, but was later shuffled to the locker room for further examination. Shaw did return to the game and replaced his backup Dylan Thompson, who was 0 for 3 while in the game, but was slow getting up after every hit he took and in visible pain on the sideline. Shaw did stick it out and led the Gamecocks on the game winning drive later in the quarter.

“It’s just painful for him,” Spurrier said. “And he has trouble lifting his arm right now so it’s pretty hard to play quarterback.”

Spurrier said that Shaw “won’t play if he’s not healthy” against East Carolina next week.

The Gamecocks should be pretty worried, without a healthy Shaw their offense struggled massively even with Marcus Lattimore back.

I would start Dylan Thompson and let Shaw rest…tell the team we are going with Dylan. We will need Shaw to be 100% later…why take a chance in a non-conference game. Let Ellington try if Thompson tanks again. I would practice like Dylan is the man this week! Go Cocks!
