The Iowa Hawkeyes need running backs. The Hawkeyes have lost seven running backs to injury and off field issues since last season, including two running backs in Saturday’s game against FCS school Northern Iowa.
On Saturday, at roughly 4:20 pm a craigslist add was posted in the Iowa City area.
With no healthy running backs, Iowa turned to walk-on full back Mark Weisman to sub in at tailback. Weisman ran for 113 yards and scored 3 rushing Touchdowns in Iowa’s 27-16 win over the Panthers.
Winter 2012: Marcus Coker transferred to Stoney Brook University after off-field disciplinary issues.
Winter 2012: Mika’il McCall broke his ankle early in the 2011 season and was later suspended for a violation of team rules. McCall transferred to Southern Illinois.
Spring 2012: Jordan Canzeri tears his ACL during a closed practice. Canzeri had 31 carries for 114 yards and a receiving touchdown in 2011.
Summer 2012: De’Andre Johnson is dismissed after being arrested twice in three days. Johnson rushed 18 times for 79 yards in 2011.
Summer 2012: Barkley Hill tears his ACL. He had no college carries.
Fall 2012: Sophomore Damon Bullock out with a head injury (may be a few weeks)
Fall 2012: Freshman Greg Garmon out with arm injury (should return)
If Ferentz’s job wasn’t in question coming into Saturday (it’s not), it may well be in a couple of weeks after the Hawkeyes travel to Michigan State (it won’t be…yet).
