Notre Dame has decided to opt-out of their contract with Michigan that runs through 2017. The last game will be in 2014.
The announcement comes after the Irish beat the Wolverines in a 13 – 6 Michigan turnover fest.
The Irish are set to join the ACC, sort of, in 2015 where they will have to play 5 conference games.
Michigan AD Dave Brandon says the decision was definitely not Michigan’s.
“The decision to cancel games in 2015-17 was Notre Dame’s and not ours”
The two schools have played every year since 2002 and the rivalry dates back to 1887 and were set to take a break for the 2018-2019 seasons.
I expect Notre Dame to keep the series with USC, Navy, and possibly Purdue, but the rest of the games are up in the air.
