1 Alabama – idle
2 Oregon 52 vs 23 Washington 21
The Ducks powered forward and looked again like they should possibly be the number 1 team in the country.
3 Florida State 16 at NC State 17
The Seminoles cost themselves any shot they had at a BCS title game appearance with their loss on the road to an unranked NC State team. The Noles had an ok first half, but were sleepwalking the second half and NC State made them pay. For a team that had a cakewalk to the title game, they sure messed it up.
4 LSU 6 at 10 Florida 14
The LSU Tigers offense is still suffering. Literally they have been decimated by injury. The Tigers did not record an offensive touchdown while their opponent, the Gators, didn’t look very solid offensively either they did open up the playbook in the second half and wore down one of the best defensive lines in the country. The Gators defense lived up to Muschamp’s standards and Florida has definitely turned a corner.
5 Georgia 7 at 6 South Carolina 35
The Bulldogs looked terrible while the Gamecocks looked like a team that could be ranked 1st in the country. Steve Spurrier has his team on the brink of finally breaking through and winning the SEC East and looking good enough to win the SEC Championship. They still have some tough tests coming up on the road at LSU and Florida, but the Gamecocks have the offense and defense to get through those games.
7 Kansas State 56 vs Kansas 16
Bill Snyder and Collin Klein. That is all. This team could be the best team an extremely top heavy Big 12.
8 West Virginia 48 at 11 Texas 45
Geno Smith is still the Heisman front runner. Smith had another outstanding performance and to do so on the road against the Longhorns in West Virginia’s first road Big 12 game shows just how much poise he has. Holgorsen has the Mountaineers in position to win the Big 12 in their first year in the league.
9 Notre Dame 41 vs Miami 3
Despite the terrible uniforms, Notre Dame looked good. Really good. Like they’re back good. The Irish blew out a 4 – 1 Miami team that has been over achieving all season. The Irish have 17 Stanford next week.
12 Ohio State 63 vs 21 Nebraska 38
Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes destroyed Nebraska. Taylor Martinez looked like the Martinez of old throwing 5 picks. It was not a good day for the Cornhuskers and showed just how good the Buckeyes are going to be under Meyer.
13 USC 38 at Utah 28
The Trojans got off to a horrible start against the Utes, but eventually overpowered them. The game wound up being not as close as the score indicates.
14 Oregon State 19 vs Washington State 6
The Beavers are back and Mike Leach needs more time. Oregon State looks like a contender in the Pac 12.
15 TCU 23 vs Iowa State 37
TCU was playing without quarterback Casey Pachall, who had been arrested again for another DUI, and it showed. The Cyclones beat up on them to have what could be considered their second upset of the season. (1st was win over Iowa)
15 Clemson 47 vs Georgia Tech 31
The Yellow Jackets are not so good and Clemson is now in position to win the ACC again. They’ll have to get past Florida State, who obviously has some weaknesses, but there is a chance that with their athletes the Tigers could out gun the Noles.
17 Oklahoma 41 at Texas Tech 20
Texas Tech had the number 1 defense in the country heading into the game against the Sooners, it’s fair to say that their schedule was pretty easy heading into the OU game: Northwestern St, Texas St, New Mexico, and Iowa St (who is above). The Sooners aren’t out of the Big 12 running by any means, but like LSU, the Sooners have suffered a lot of losses on their line and it’s showing.
18 Stanford 54 vs Arizona 48 (OT)
I’m not sure whether this was a great comeback by Stanford or an absolutely terrible loss by Arizona. Both teams have problems.
20 Mississippi State 27 at Kentucky 14
Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs are off to a 5 – 0 start for the first time since 1999. Their secondary appears to be one of the best in the SEC and with Tennessee and Middle Tennessee coming up the next two weeks, the Bulldogs could head into Tuscaloosa at 7 – 0.
22 Rutgers 19 vs Connecticut 3
The Scarlet Knights keep rolling through the Big East. The conference is terrible and the Knights do have wins over non-conference opponents Arkansas and South Florida, but are they really a good 5 – 0 team or just the best in the Big East. Cincinnati is nipping at their heels at 4 – 0.
24 Northwestern 28 at Penn State 39
Everyone enjoys seeing the Wildcats win, well not everyone, but I do. The big question coming out of this game is whether or not Penn State is for real. The Nittany Lions are 4 – 2 and coach Bill O’Brien deserves a medal for that fact alone.
25 UCLA 17 at California 43
It’s safe to say that UCLA has come back down to earth after their 3 – 0 start they’ve lost 2 out of the last 3. The Bruins chances at winning the Pac 12 south are slipping away very quickly. Especially when you drop a game to a 1 – 4 Cal team.
