The Oklahoma State Cowboys announced that next year (2013) they will open their season on the road against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The game, that was rumored to be in talks last month, will take place in Houston at Reliant Stadium, the home of the Houston Texans.
This will be the first edition of the “Texas Kick Off Classic”, which has been arranged by ESPN, the Texans and Lone Star Sports and Entertainment.
Oklahoma State AD Mike Holder:
“We’re excited to open the season in Houston. We have a growing number of Texans attending Oklahoma State and a large alumni base in the area. We will be playing a high-profile season opener in a great stadium. I think our fans will be eager for this matchup all summer.”
Mississippi State AD Scott Stricklin:
“This is a great opportunity for our team to open the 2013 season in an NFL stadium. It provides our fans a unique destination for the season opener. We have a great fan base in Texas, as well, who will be excited to see the Bulldogs play in their home state.”
This is the 5th time the Bulldogs and Cowboys will be meeting and the series is currently tied at 2 a piece with Miss State winning the last meeting in 1999.
