Week 7: Top 5 games to watch

A renewed rival, another top 10 match up, defenses not optional anymore in the Big 12, two totally different coaches, and a surprise team that should be on upset alert.

The LSU defense stepped up last weekend against then number 3 South Carolina and shut down the running game and Connor Shaw. This week the Tigers will face Johnny Football, who has more yards himself than most teams. Can the Tigers shut down the dynamic freshman quarterback or will the Aggies get a win in a renewed rivalry?

The Gators are one of the biggest surprises this season after finishing 6 – 6 last year, and coach Will Muschamp doesn’t plan on stopping this week when he faces former Gators coach Steve Spurrier. The Gamecocks may be without their leading rusher Marcus Lattimore, which will put a lot of pressure on Connor Shaw to produce against the 13th ranked defense in the country.

17 Texas Tech at 23 TCU

The Red Raiders are coming off of a huge upset of then 5 West Virginia. Tommy Tuberville’s defense started the season as 1st overall and is now ranked 5th while the Horned Frogs are ranked 15th. Texas Tech put up good offensive numbers last week, but West Virginia’s defense is ranked 114th in the country. If Vegas says the game will be this close, tune in.

4 Kansas State at 13 West Virginia

Bill Snyder is going about his business at Kansas State as if they weren’t ranked at all. Snyder much prefers to be out of the spotlight but he’ll have to lose for that to happen this season. Kansas State is ranked 4th in the BCS standings and travel to Morgantown to play in a rowdy atmosphere that’ll surely be hungry for a win after their team was blown out on the road against Texas Tech. Dana Holgorsen may be one of the best offensive coaches in the game, and he may have one of the best quarterbacks in the country, but if there’s anything to be learned from last weeks game against Texas Tech, it’s that defense is NOT OPTIONAL!

Utah at 8 Oregon State

It’s the return of the 10:30PM game! While most would consider this game a possible snoozer, I’m not so sure. Mike Riley and Oregon State are currently undefeated at 5 – 0 and even though they lost their quarterback, they still managed to blow out BYU and are looking to move right along through the Pac 12. Utah, on the other hand, is having a pretty bad season and are currently 2 – 4 and on a 3 game losing streak. The Utes though, may be just the team to give Oregon State problems. The Beavers may be looking ahead a week to Washington. Keep your eyes open.
