Dan Mullen and the 7 – 0 Mississippi State Bulldogs will travel to Tuscaloosa this weekend to face Nick Saban and the 7 – 0 Crimson Tide. To everyone’s surprise, this will be a match-up of undefeated teams.
This will be the biggest game of Mullen’s head coaching career and with a win, Mullen could solidify himself as a threat in the SEC West, something he’s been close to doing since taking over at State.
Mullen told reports that the Bulldogs have been “tested a bunch” this season, but that Alabama will be the best team that they have faced. (obvious statement)
We’ve been tested a bunch. We’ve had some pretty close games during this season.
Alabama will be the best team we’ve played so far — but I guess anybody that plays them will say that about them since they’re the best team in the country. Our kids have been through some different tests, they’ve faced the adversity of success, they’ve faced the adversity on the field of being put in some rough situations and we had to step up and make some plays. Our guys have been through a lot and we have some good leadership on this team. I feel like they’ll be ready for the environment we’re going to head into on Saturday night.
Should Mullen and the Bulldogs pull off the unthinkable, they’ll be sitting at 8 – 0 this season and looking at a shot at a trip to Atlanta, somewhere they’ve only been once before in 1998 where they lost to the eventual national champion Tennessee Volunteers.
We’ll have more on this game this week as it’s a big one for state fans.
