The Honey Badger’s road to redemption has been stopped short. Tyrann Mathieu, along with former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson, was arrested yesterday and charged with simple possession of marijuana.
Mathieu has been attending classes at LSU and attempting to clean up his act with the help of John Lucas in Houston. Mathieu had spent several weeks with Lucas in an attempt to rid himself of his stubbornness to give up pot. Mathieu was scheduled to spend his Christmas break with Lucas working on his issues.
At this point, it’s safe to say that the Honey Badger will never see the field again as a Tiger, even after Les Miles hinted that he may be able to return to the team next season if he were to get his act together. He will probably never see the field again in FBS football. Mathieu’s best option may have been to transfer to a FCS school and play immediately, which he could still do, but he chose to stay in Baton Rouge and attend LSU in hopes of returning to the field in purple and gold. It’s now evident that Mathieu couldn’t give up all of the bad influences in his life, and while he supposedly cut out those influences in New Orleans he doesn’t seem to have been able to get away from them in Baton Rouge.
Mathieu has had all the chances in the world. He’s thrown them all away. He may have been a 3rd round pick this season if he were to enter the NFL draft, but now his off the field issues will probably keep him from being drafted at all. Who wants a 5 foot 8 corner with a pot problem? The NFL is trying to clean up its act both on and off the field and the chances that someone will actually invest a draft pick in Mathieu have dropped to zero.

Meanwhile, Jordan Jefferson is obviously still the guy from Shady’s. Les Miles’ decision to play him over Jarrett Lee in the BCS Championship game should be even more scrutinized now that he’s been arrested again. Jefferson has shown poor judgement on the field and off the field, and LSU fans seem to have a slight smirk on their faces, similar to the smirk Jefferson has on his face in the picture, when hearing the news that he’s been arrested yet again.
Note: These are FORMER LSU players. They are not on the team, nor do they have anything to do with the football program.
