For the first time in 6 years, there is a chance that the SEC won’t be represented in the BCS title game. I know it’s hard for SEC fans to imagine and the rest of the country is celebrating, but the SEC could actually knock themselves out of the title game this weekend.
Should LSU defeat Alabama in Baton Rouge this weekend, there will be no undefeated SEC team. Even though there are currently 5 SEC teams in the top 8 in the BCS poll, the best conference could get left out.
Here are a four scenarios for you to ponder.
Lets just go ahead and say that no matter what, Kansas State will win out because lets be honest, they play defense and defense wins championships.
Scenario 1
If LSU beats Alabama this weekend all SEC teams will have 1 loss.
Notre Dame wins out and beats USC in their final game of the season there is NO WAY that they are left out of the BCS title game. NO WAY!
Should Oregon win out and defeat a top 10 Oregon State, a top 20 Stanford, and a top 20 USC twice they will jump Kansas State.
Kansas State wins out and has no conference championship game.
BCS title game: Notre Dame vs Oregon
Scenario 2
If LSU beats Alabama this weekend all SEC teams will have 1 loss.
Notre Dame wins out and beats USC in their final game of the season.
Oregon wins out and loses to USC in the Pac 12 championship game.
Kansas State wins out.
BCS title game: Notre Dame vs Kansas State
Scenario 3
a. LSU beats Alabama and wins out winning the SEC championship.
b. LSU beats Alabama and loses a game to have 2 losses. 1 loss Alabama wins out and wins SEC championship.
c. LSU or Alabama wins out and loses SEC championship to Georgia.
Notre Dame loses to USC.
Oregon wins out and loses to USC in the Pac 12 championship game.
Kansas State wins out.
BCS title game: a LSU, b Alabama, c Georgia vs Kansas State
Obviously for scenario 3 there are more choices than just Kansas State.
So for the SEC to make the BCS title game with a 1 loss team, 1 of these 2 teams, Oregon, Notre Dame, Kansas State will have to lose a game.
[...] There could be no SEC teams in the National Championship this year. If LSU beats the Alabama Crimson Tide, they have almost no chance of making it. The Florida Gators lost to the Georgia Bulldogs so it seems they are out. The LSU Tigers seem out of the hunt. Will Kansas State, Oregon, or Notre Dame end up in the championship game?
