After allowing the Missouri Tigers to come back to get only their second SEC win, Derek Dooley was handed his walking papers by the University of Tennessee. With a 0-6 record in the SEC, it’s not a surprising firing considering widespread reports last night and this morning of the termination. The decision is not a cheap one as Tennessee will owe Derek Dooley $5 million over four years.

A traditional power in the SEC, the fall of Tennessee has been a curious one to outsiders and a painful one for the Rocky Top faithful. AD Dave Hart has cleared the decks for his first head coaching hire and one that the Volunteer nation hopes is more successful than Derek Dooley.

Update: News reports may have jumped the gun. As of late Sunday according to associate athletic director Jimmy Stanton, “There’s nothing to report.”
