South Carolina Gamecocks head ball coach Steve SpurrierThe South Carolina Gamecocks gave Steve Spurrier an extension the school announced Monday afternoon.

Spurrier led the Gamecocks to their second 10 win season in a row.

The deal is set to run through 2017 and according to AD Ray Tanner, former baseball coach, it’ll help with recruiting.

“It sometimes can be difficult in the recruiting process when you have less than four or five years on your contract.”

Even though Spurrier will be 72 in 2017, Tanner said he expects the Head Ball Coach to follow through with the contract.

“He’s in better shape than guys that are a lot younger. He feels good.”

Spurrier is listed as the 7th highest paid coach according to USA Today’s database behind Nick Saban, Mack Brown, Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, and Kirk Ferentz. (side note: 5 of those 6 have won national championships … looks at PinkBelt)
