Mario Cristobal’s name has been a popular one in recent years for many big time jobs, but Cristobal has chosen to pass on those to remain at FIU.
Cristobal was surprisingly fired after his sixth season with the Golden Panthers earlier this month.
While the Golden Panthers’ season wasn’t the greatest at 3 – 9, Cristobal took them to bowl games the previous two seasons and even won the 2010 Little Ceasars Bowl over Toledo. FIU may be reaching a little higher than they should be with their football prospects.
Now that Cristobal has been fired, he’s got no choice but to pursue another option. The latest rumor is Temple.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Cristobal has interviewed for the Owls opening that was created after Steve Addazio left for Boston College.
Cristobal isn’t the only coach the school has interviewed though as New York Giants assistant Matt Rhule, current Owls defensive coordinator Chuck Heater, and Ohio State running backs coach Stan Drayton have also been interviewed.
