Wisconsin’s Season: Wisconsin is the first 5-loss team to play in the Rose Bowl. So it goes. Wisconsin finishes the season unranked. So it goes. Wisconsin’s head coach Bret Bielema has left and become the head coach at Arkansas. So it goes. On the bright side, Wisconsin trounced Nebraska 70-31 in the B1G Championship Game. Montee Ball has more touchdowns than anyone ever. And the Badgers are being coached by Wisconsin legend Barry Alverez. Wisconsin’s starting QB, after Danny O’Brien flopped and Joel Stave was injured, is Sr. Curt Phillips. Phillips is untested, throwing only 8 passes in the B1G Championship Game. Wisconsin has also struggled finding receivers this year.
Stanford’s Season: Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor ran for 1442 yards becoming the Cardinal’s all-time leading rusher. However, Standford’s offense has been downright average ranking 94th in passing, 51st in running, and 71st in total offense. Defensively, Stanford boasts the 3rd ranked rushing defense in the country holding opponents to merely 87.7 yards per game. The defense allows only 17.5 points per game, 14th in the Nation, and are the top team in the nation with 56 sacks. The front seven are all impressive and are lead by LB Trent Murphy, LB Chase Thomas, and DE Ben Garner with 10 sacks, 7.5 sacks, and 7.5 sacks respectively.
The Game: This is the unmovable force versus the unstoppable object. At best it will be football as it was meant to be played. If Stanford can stop Wisconsin’s running game the game will be all but decided. If Wisconsin’s running game is working on all cylinders Wisconsin can compete with anyone.
