Jadeveon Clowney destroyed Michigan running back Vincent Smith. Clowney found a way through Michigan’s offensive line and hit Smith at about the same time as he received the handoff. Clowney knocked the ball out of Smith’s hands and the helmet off his head. Clowney also recovered the fumble he caused.
This play followed a controversial referee ruling. The referees measured for a spot and ruled that Michigan had made the firstdown. South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier was livid with the call as it appeared Michigan was just short of the chains.
