According to Paul Finebaum, Alabama head coach Nick Saban has had a contract extension worth up to $7 million a year on his desk for 6 days. The obvious problem is that the longer this offer goes unsigned the more worried Alabama becomes.
“[T]he longer it goes unsigned, the more uncomfortable Alabama officials grow, sources said,” wrote Finebaum.
Still be shocked if Saban heads to Texas, Makes no sense. Has a much better job and UA will write him a blank check.

Both Mack Brown and Saban are on the road recruiting during all of this so it comes down to Saban’s agent Jimmy Sexton getting his client the most money he can. Sexton will squeeze every dollar he can out of Alabama, Texas, and probably the Texans and Redskins.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstriet believes the Longhorns should take Saban off of their list immediately.
“There’s no chance. No chance of that happening,” Herbstriet told the Dallas Morning News. “Nick Saban will work TV sitting next to us on our set before he’ll be the head coach at Texas … He’ll be at Alabama for another five years, and then he’ll be working TV after that … I know Nick Saban better than anybody. It’s not going to happen.”
I’m not sure about the “I know Nick Saban better than anybody”, ok Kirk. Sure.
A lot of people are in Herbstriet’s camp. Saban has said that he doesn’t want to leave Alabama, that his family is happy at Alabama, and that he is looking forward to the rest of his time at the school (his current contract runs through 2020).
I am not in that camp. If you are Texas you have to look at what Saban has done at Bama and understand that he will make more money than he’ll cost.
It’d be easy and safe to say there’s no way he leaves, but where’s the fun in that?
