Nick Saban has hired Lane Kiffin to be his next offensive coordinator. The former USC offensive coordinator, Raiders head coach, Tennessee head coach, and USC head coach will be required to do two things.
1. Coach the offense and quarterback
Kiffin has proven that he can do both of those. The USC offense under Pete Carroll was one of the best in the country and Kiffin helped the Trojans pull in top recruiting classes while OC and HC.
Needless to say, if anyone knows what they’re doing its Nick.
Update: To the idiots who think Kiffin cost Alabama the Sugar Bowl, you know who you are, please understand that Alabama had 516 yards of total offense on Oklahoma and the Sooners put up 429 on Bama.
USC signed 5 5-star recruits in 2013, class was ranked 8th in 2012, 4th in 2011, 1st in 2010 (Kiffin’s first year). That’s hardly a decline in recruiting talent considering the sanctions at USC. The USC offense has averaged over 425 ypg every year under Kiffin, both as a head coach and offensive coordinator (456.75 ypg in 2011, 431.46 in 2010 while head coach, that’s up from 389.08 in 2009 when he was at Tennessee where he still averaged 383.46 ypg).
So yeah, I don’t think it’s a bad hire, but since the guy sucks as a head coach it’s easy to see why he’d suck as an offensive coordinator under the best coach in the game. *sarcasm
