Nebraska’s Season: Nebraska enters this game a 10 point underdog. The Huskers’ 70-31 drubbing in the B1G title game has removed some of the wind from their sails. The Nebraska’s none-too-convincing win over Iowa the week before is not encouraging either. The Bugeaters do have a solid running game with Ameer Abdullah, Rex Burkhead, and Taylor Martinez but despite Martinez’ somewhat improved passing form the Husker receiving game has been lacking. Nebraska’s Blackshirts have been solid against the pass leading the nation giving up only 148.2 passing yards per game.
Georgia’s Season: Aaron Murray leads the nation with 7.8 yards per passing attempt. Stafford threw for 31 TDs and only 8 INTs. True freshman RB Todd Gurley lead the SEC with 1260 yards on 199 carries and 16 touchdowns. Georgia’s Defense is lead by SEC defensive player of the year OLB Jarvis Jones who had 22.5 tackles for a loss 12.5 sacks and 7 forced fumbles. The Bulldog defense will be without starting 6’3″ 358 pound noseguard John Jenkins because of poor grades.
The Game: The storyline of this game is two teams looking for redemption. Both teams lost their respective Conference title games and despite winning their divisions neither team wound up in a BCS bowl. However, Georgia hung with Alabama until the last moments of the SEC championship game while Nebraska got embarrassed in a 70-31 thumping to a 7-5 Wisconsin team. If Nebraska can establish a ground game they have a chance if they rely on Taylor Martinez’ arm the Bulldogs will have a field day.
