Wisconsin Fires OL Coach

Mike Markuson is out as the offensive line coach for Wisconsin. This was Markuson’s first year with the Badgers and had only coached two games thus far. Before joining Wisconsin, Markuson was an offensive line coach for Arkansas and Mississippi.

Bart Miller, currently in his second season as the quality control coach on offense, is expected to take Markuson’s place. Miller played at New Mexico from ’04-’07 and worked as a Grad Assistant at New Mexico State before joining the Badgers.

Markuson’s departure follows Wisconsin’s 10-7 loss at Oregon State this past Saturday. Despite returning Heisman candidate Montee Ball, Wisconsin ran for only 35 yards on 23 rushing attempts averaging a laughable 1.5 yards per carry. Transfer QB Danny O’Brien was sacked 3 times for a loss of 35 yards.

After Wisconsin’s loss against the Beavers, Jr. C Travis Frederick said, “Last week was the first time we ever had a game rep under coach Markuson and coach (Matt) Canada (Offensive Coordinator). There were a few different things. I thought we kind of worked through those.

I didn’t notice a lot of big things that were problems, but it just comes down to communication. What we used to do, everyone had their job and you did this and this, and this is how everybody knew it. It’s just a little different.”
